E way Bill is an electronically generated document issued for transportation of goods by vehicles. Without an Eway bill, a registered person is not permitted to transport goods from one place to another if the value of the goods exceeds ₹50000 or in some special cases where the supply is inter-state i.e., transport of goods from one state to another.
Each E Way Bill consists of a unique number known as EBN (E-Way Bill Number) which is available to the buyer, seller, and also the transporter.
An E Way Bill generally has two parts; Part A and Part B. Part A is to be filled by the supplier and Part B by the transporter. However, it is a common business practice to fill both the parts by the supplier himself.
EWay Bill generation can be done through various modes like online, SMS, Android App, and API-based integration. It can be generated from www.ewaybillgst.gov.in.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1. Why is an e-way bill required?
A1.Actually, it’s necessary to have an e-way bill generated from the common portal.
According to Section 68 of the Act, the government can ask the person responsible for a vehicle carrying valuable goods to carry specific documents and devices as prescribed. Rule 138 of the CGST Rules, 2017 states that an e way bill is the required document for certain cases when transporting goods.
Q2. Whenever I am trying to register, the system is saying you have already registered, how should I proceed?
A2. So basically, what this means is that you’ve already signed up on the e way bill website and set up your username and password there. Now you can use those details to log into the eway bill system.
If you’ve forgotten your username or password, don’t worry! Just use the ‘Forgot Username’ or ‘Forgot Password’ option on the website, and you can either retrieve your username or create a new password, depending on what you need.
Q3. What is TRANSIN or Transporter ID?
A3. TRANSIN or Transporter id is 15 digit unique number generated by EWB system for unregistered transporter, once he enrolls on the systemwhich issimilar to GSTIN format and is based on state code, PAN and Check sumdigit.
This can be shared by transporterwithhis clients, who may enter this number while generating e way bills for assigning goods to him for transportation.
Q4. How to fix ‘Your account has been frozen’ issue during login?
A4. It looks like your account has been frozen because there are a couple of possibilities. Either you canceled your registration or your GSTIN got deactivated in the GST Common Portal. To check the status of your GSTIN, you can visit the GST Common Portal at www.gst.gov.in and go to the ‘Search Taxpayer’ tab. If you can log in to the GST portal but not the e way Bill portal, please file a complaint at https://selfservice.gstsystem.in/.
Q5. Which types of transactions need the e-way bill?
A5.
To move things around, like when you’re buying or selling stuff locally or across different states, you gotta use this thing called an e-way bill. It’s a must for all kinds of transactions, whether you’re sending stuff out or bringing stuff in, even if it’s from people who aren’t officially registered or for reasons other than just selling. If you want more specifics, check out the official notifications and rules.
But here’s the deal: starting from April 1, 2018, you only need the e-way bill for moving things between different states. They’ll let you know later when you’ll need it for moving things within the same state.
